As a refugee from Malaysia, M.P. started at Garfield Community Learning Center as a sophomore. “The biggest challenge going from high school to college is not knowing what's going to happen in the class, how to make friends, and how the professors are going to teach.” Akron Promise helped with college entrance requirements and navigation, and provided personal and financial assistance. M.P. has one more year to go on a Bachelor’s degree in Primary Education.
